Hobart
A City of Natural Beauty, Culture and Innovation
We are honoured to host the ASID 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting in Hobart, on the unceded lands of the Palawa people, the Traditional Custodians of lutruwita (Tasmania). We acknowledge their deep and ongoing connection to Country, culture, and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
Set between the tranquil waters of the Derwent River and the iconic kunanyi / Mount Wellington, Hobart is a city that balances natural beauty with cultural depth and contemporary innovation. As Australia’s southernmost capital, Hobart offers a distinctive experience shaped by its layered histories, creative energy, and proximity to some of the world’s most pristine environments.
Delegates will enjoy a city rich in character — from its vibrant waterfront and colonial architecture to its thriving food and arts scenes, including the renowned Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). The influence and stories of Tasmania’s First Peoples are increasingly recognised through local experiences, cultural tours, and interpretive spaces that highlight one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures.
